Among the main achievements of the CFBB Working Groups , supported by institutions (The Bibliothèque nationale de France), organisations (IFLA-PAC preservation and Conservation Core Activity) and volunteers ( in particular students), let us quote :
SEMINARS AND CONFERENCES Three seminars have been organised and a fourth one is in preparation:
Paper or digital publication of the proceedings is available. As a result of the seminar in Toulouse a local section of the Blue Shield has been created in order to better cope with disasters in the Region of Midi-Pyrénées (South West of France). ● In December 2007 a conference was organised after the General Assembly meeting ● CFBB participated to a seminar entitled Risk Management and Security of Collections organised in Arles by the CCL (Centre de Conservation du Livre=Centre for Book Preservation) in 2005.
Risk Management and Security of Collections: Arles, October 11-13, 2005 The seminar was organised by the European Programme NOE (lien) and the Direction of French Archives in Arles at the National School of Photography.
The role of institutions and international programmes in risk management : - Presentation of the European Programme NOE on heritage and natural disasters. - Presentation of ICBS and CFBB. - Activities of the World Bank concerning the prevention of natural disasters. - Risk Management in a cultural and heritage context.
Disaster Planning and Security of Collections : - Elaboration of a data base on disasters, based on former disasters. The data base will be regularly updated. It will be common to all fields of preservation in the framework of the European Programme NOE. - Mapping of risk preparedness and emergency planning in Normandy. - Presentation of the Portuguese Institute of Preservation and Conservation. - The Emergency plan as organised at the Orne Archives : priority is given to the nature and fragility of documents and not to their historical, artistical or heritage value. Documents to be saved in priority are divided according to their resistance toflooding / 24 hours, 36 hours, 48 hours.
Case studies: - Flooding of the Gard Archives, 2002 and 2005. - Procedures to be followed, according to the degradation of various materials. - Risk management applied to a number of flooding. - Presentation of “Memory of Disasters”, a project common to NOE and CFBB Working group on Disaster planning.
