The role of CFBB in France is similar to the role of ICBS worldwide. Anyhow its missions particularly focus on :

• prevention , and on the elaboration of any preventive measures to protect cultural heritage from the consequences of disasters, whether natural  or  not;
• exchange of savoir-faire between emergency specialists, used to follow rules of procedures in action, and conservators or heritage specialists in charge of the physical protection of cultural heritage, who know the fragility of buildings, items and artefacts and what they are made of;
• cross-cooperation between cultural specialists whose individual specificity must lag behind the common measures they must take in the event of a disaster of after;
• awareness raising concerning the fragility of cultural heritage by emergency or heritage professionals, the government and decision makers as well as the public at large;
• training.
