Created in 2001 the French Committee of the Blue Shield (Comité français du Bouclier Bleu) gathers 180 individual and institutional members. Its major goal is to raise awareness among professionals on the dangers threatening cultural property and to provide tools in order to take adequate preventive measures to mitigate the consequences of disasters.

It is the sole representative of ICBS (International Committee of the Blue Shield) in France and may be asked to participate in actions outside France on demand of ICBS.

Its founding members are :

• * IFLA International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions
• * CCAAA Coordinating Council of Associations of Audiovisual Archives was asked to join the Committee in 2007
